Medical eye appointments can be made for monitoring for macular degeneration, diabetic or hypertensive retinopathy, glaucoma, or medical emergencies like flashes, floaters, eye strain/ headaches, vision loss, sudden blur or red eye.
If you have macular degeneration, your eyes should be monitored at least anually; if not, more often. Dr. Hoang can take macular optical coherence tomography to evaluate for drusen or fluid leaking in between the layers of the retina. An amsler grid is also recommended to use at home to detect distortion in your vision. If you notice new wavy, distorted, or missing lines in the amsler grid, come in for a medical eye visit immediately.
Diabetes, cholesterol and high blood pressure can cause vision loss. If you have one or more of these conditions and are experiencing vision changes, then come get your eyes checked immediately. An annual eye exam and routine visits with your medical doctor can prevent emergency visits like these.
Dr. Hoang is certified to monitor and treat glaucoma. Mild to moderate cases can be treated with eye drops to help lower pressure. More complicated cases may warrant a referral to ophthalmology, especially if surgery is needed. Vision loss from glaucoma is irreversible, so early detection is the goal for Dr. Hoang.
There can be many causes for red eye. These may include allergies, dry eye, infections, and foreign objects getting into the eye. While some cases may be mild, other cases may require urgent treatment. Dr. Hoang accepts walk in appointments to accommodate all types of red eye conditions to quickly find you relief. Below are some procedures that may need to be done at your next medical eye visit
Medical walk-in visits
Retinal photos/imaging
Visual Field Testing
Dilation
Foreign Body Removal
Glaucoma Visit (includes optic nerve imaging/OCT, eye pressure check, extended visual field)
There may be some instances where a referral to ophthalmology is needed. Dr. Hoang will be able to determine that for you. Ophthalmology groups such as OC Retina and Acuity Eye Group have great doctors who can treat complicated medical eye conditions.
